1. A Tripped Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to protect your dryer from overheating. If the dryer gets too hot, the fuse "blows" to cut off power to the heating system.
The Cause: Usually a clogged vent line.
2. Burnt-Out Heating Element (Electric Dryers)
In electric dryers, the heating element is a metal coil that glows hot, similar to a toaster. Over time, these coils can burn out or crack.
The Symptom: The dryer runs perfectly but the air inside stays room temperature.
3. Clogged Dryer Vents (The Most Common Issue!)
In Encino and Sherman Oaks, many homes have long vent runs that get packed with lint. If the air can’t escape, the dryer won’t heat efficiently, or it will trip the thermal fuse.
The Danger: This is a leading cause of house fires in California.
4. Faulty Igniter or Gas Coils (Gas Dryers)
If you have a gas dryer, it uses an igniter to light the burner. If the igniter glows but no flame starts, the gas coils are likely failing to open the valve.
The Symptom: You might smell a faint hint of gas, or hear a "click" without the sound of a flame starting.
5. Broken Flame Sensor or Thermostat
Your dryer uses sensors to monitor the internal temperature. If a sensor fails, it might tell the dryer to stop heating because it "thinks" the target temperature has already been reached.
